The Future of Australian Legal Education Conference took place in August 2017 in Sydney and was proudly co-hosted by The Australian Law Journal<\/em><\/a> and the Australian Academy of Law<\/a>. Opened by the Chief Justice of the Federal Court, the Hon James Allsop AO, the conference was a collaborative event to celebrate the 90th anniversary of The Australian Law Journal <\/em>and <\/em>the 10th anniversary of the Australian Academy of Law, and marked 30 years since the release of the Pearce Report<\/em> on Australian Law Schools. The conference provided a national forum for the entire legal profession to come together and discuss formally the future of legal education.<\/p>\n

The keynote speaker at The Future of Australian Legal Education Conference was world-renowned philosopher, distinguished author and law professor, Professor Martha C. Nussbaum. Professor Nussbaum is the Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Ethics at the University of Chicago Law School. She is also appointed to the Philosophy Department at the University of Chicago and an associate in the Classics Department, the Divinity School and the Political Science department.<\/p>\n

In this special extended 4-part video series, the General Editor of The Australian Law Journal<\/em>, the Hon Justice Fran\u00e7ois Kunc<\/a> and Assistant General Editor, barrister Dr Ruth Higgins SC, interview Professor Nussbaum. They gain some unique insights into her role as an interdisciplinary \u201cinterloper\u201d in the field of law.<\/p>\n
