Nussbaum, World-Renowned Professor and Philosopher: Part 2 [Video]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"intro-paragraph\">The Future of Australian Legal Education Conference took place in August 2017 in Sydney and was proudly co-hosted by <a href=\"http:\/\/legal.thomsonreuters.com.au\/products\/australian-law-journal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The Australian Law Journal<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.academyoflaw.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Australian Academy of Law<\/a>. Opened by the Chief Justice of the Federal Court, the Hon James Allsop AO, the conference was a collaborative event to celebrate the 90th anniversary of <em>The Australian Law Journal <\/em>and<em>&nbsp;<\/em>the 10th anniversary of the Australian Academy of Law, and marked 30 years since the release of the <em>Pearce Report<\/em> on Australian Law Schools. The conference provided a national forum for the entire legal profession to come together and discuss formally the future of legal education.<\/p>\n<p>The keynote speaker at The Future of Australian Legal Education Conference was world-renowned philosopher, distinguished author and law professor, Professor Martha C. Nussbaum. Professor Nussbaum is the Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Ethics at the University of Chicago Law School. She is also appointed to the Philosophy Department at the University of Chicago and an associate in the Classics Department, the Divinity School and the Political Science department.<\/p>\n<p>In part 2 of this extended&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/legal.thomsonreuters.com.au\/products\/australian-law-journal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Australian Law Journal (ALJ)<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;4-part video series, Professor Martha C. Nussbaum talks to <a href=\"http:\/\/insight.thomsonreuters.com.au\/resources\/resource\/alj-general-editor-hon-justice-francois-kunc\">ALJ General Editor, the Hon Justice Fran\u00e7ois Kunc<\/a>, and Assistant General Editor, Dr Ruth Higgins SC, about her well-known book, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Poetic-Justice-Imagination-Alexander-Rosenthal\/dp\/0807041092\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Poetic Justice: The Literary Imagination and Public Life<\/em><\/a> (Beacon Press, 1995). Justice Kunc asks Professor Nussbaum: \u201cWhat do you mean by a literary imagination and should lawyers have one?\u201d. Professor Nussbaum also introduces her upcoming book, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Monarchy-Fear-Philosopher-Political-Crisis\/dp\/1501172492\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The Monarchy of Fear: A Philosopher Looks at Our Political Crisis<\/em><\/a> (Simon &amp; Schuster, 2018).<\/p>\n<p>Check out part 2 of the extended video series below.
